yesterday i met mingwei, his son, ben, and his wife.
not much is discussed regarding to the investor but it was a fun first time irl meeting their family.
one question from mingwei's wife stumped me: how do you take care of fragmentation/shedding to your organoid bodies during segmentation?
i didn't know what to answer, but in retrospect i realized i already planned this out back in december. my current self is dumber than the past and i have to fix that. i doubted myself, but i was wrong about me being wrong.
i made CCL a thing during segmentation, inserted it right between raw segmentation and showing the final mask preview in the SAM3 segmentation GUI. CCL, or connected component labeling, is the tool that enabled me to remove any segmented masks that are supposedly satellite, or smaller than the largest area one calculated from CCL.
and even in future iterations this is the utmost practical way of doing it. it's technically most feasible per mingwei. no more thinking about satellites. on top of a fine-tuned SAM3 for precise per primary organoid body segmentation that ignores satelites, an additional CCL implementation as gaurdrail would be double the safety.
